If you can keep him alive with a couple of early hits, Timecrafting can really help.
Hell, if you have both in your hand you can drop him with a couple extra pints.
But yeah, could've used Haste and/or Trample. Or something.

Turn 2: Jhoira's Timbeug
Turn 3: Lavacore Elemental. Tap the Timebug to put a time counter on it every turn forever. Enjoy your permanent turn 3 5/3.

I actually rather like this card. Combine with cheap tramplers (especially in multiplayer) and you're likely to keep it counter'd up. The 5 damage per turn, the constant card advantage if they block, or the fact that they'll spend removal on *this* causes issues for people. Nice thing is, they want to wait to spend removal until they see that you can get it to stick.
I recommend Reckless Charge, Fury Charm, Keldon Marauders. Proliferate can help, clock spinning is a 1-mana way to get him through. Distortion Strike
I want to point out that Distortion Strike does more damage with this guy than it does with Kiln Fiend; which is pretty impressive. Consider Reckless Charge + Dist. Strike for a total of 18 unblockable over 2 turns. Unfortunately it takes 5 mana; but it's quite doable on turn 3 with:
T1: Sandstone Needle
T2:... (see all)

If "lavacore" was a genre of music, I would probably listen to it.

Its cheap, so in the right draw it can be great. But I've never had that happen.
