Stick a Basilisk Collar on this old favorite and he goes from weenie killer to giant killer with deathtouch. Top it off with an effect that can untap him for multiple kills, such as Instill Energy or the first ability of Norritt. Both can splash easily into your blue deck for a more permanent way of getting rid of creatures than bounce spells/effects.

Wow, I didn't know they printed this all the way into 7th edition. You'd think by then they'd decide that he was in the wrong color.

@gelzo: The modern color pie came with the modern card frame. 7th was something of a transition from old to new. The new artwork for all the cards was to freshen the game, but it wasn't enough so we got 8th and the game has forever been better (with the exception of the younger devs always wanting their cards to outshine what is already in play).

They waste their amazing commenting powers on commenting how un-amazing Tony Szczudlo is.
Give the guy a break, he was commissioned to draw a mean looking wizard and he did. He probably had no idea there was a cult following who were going to Channel Hatred towards him. Prodigal Sorcerer pings small creatures and kills them, the humble old chap we all know and love from the previous art probably seemed too tame to be a squirrel murdering wizard in Tony's eyes so he made this evil looking fellow you guys all seem to hate, I'd say he did a good job at portraying a despicable wizard!
