Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.

This card references an entire set: Fallen Empires. The set took place on Sarpadia, an island nation on Dominaria ruled by several empires spread across the five colors. While they warred with each other, each empire eventually collapsed from within; that is each color's empire was overwhelmed by an uprising in it's own color. The source of the overwhelming forces were represented by tokens of a particular race as Fallen Empires was one of the first 'tribal' sets:

The white-alligned human civilization of Icatia succumbed to religious zealotry among its citizens (see Icatian Town).
The blue-alligned Vodalian merfolk fell prey to the homarids; their young are called camarids (see Homarid Spawning Bed.)

There were no cards that produced merfolk, wizard, soldier, or bird tokens in Fallen Empires. That's why.

I hope they come back and do another one of these or even a full cycle, spawing things like Orc,Dwarves,minion,Ogre,giant,Knight,warrior, soldier you name it. 5/5 for flavour alone!

I wish this card's activation cost was less :(. Figures they'd make a Fallen Empires homage unplayable...
