Mark Poole didn't make the card, he just illustrated it.

This is actually not a terrible creature in a lot of games, though I prefer Phantom Monster in most situations. It's playable in limited and provides 4 power with evasion for 4 mana, which can end a game in short order if your opponent has few blockers or removal - and trade with threats like Serra Angel and Sengir Vampire. Blue was the "air force" color in early Magic, and with a swarm of Flying Men, Phantom Monster, Air Elemental and Mahamoti Djinn protected by countermagic, you could really put some damage on the board and remove everything that posed a threat. Unstable Mutation also addressed this creature's defensive deficiencies, making it really hard to kill - especially if your opponent was tiptoeing around your countermagic.

This card is overcosted, and easy to kill...not a very good combination...by the way how do I get U???
This card would be better with Trample...

This card didn't see much play for a long time due to the upkeep until we all realized that 4 mana for 4 power was a steal no matter which way you sliced it.

Not Mark Poole's best. I'd rather have a creature that was a bit sturdier, but 4 for 4 with flying is pretty good.

works now ("U" in square brackets).
O.K., one wacky complicated johnnieness for this card: Trade to opponent without for a better creature using Spawnbroker.

How has this card not reminded anybody of Flash Gordon?
