In my first pure black deck, Frozen Shade was one of my most reliable heavy-hitters. It was Frozen Shade that taught me the importance of the "attack first, cast spells later" strategy. Like most new players, my attitude had always been "the quicker I get my creatures out, the better off I'll be." But with Frozen Shade, I had to be more selective with my mana. My opponent's choices often made this easy for me. If the Shade got blocked, I'd pump it up just enough to kill off their blocker (and/or keep the Shade alive), then use the remaining mana in my second main phase to cast more creatures. If the Shade didn't get blocked, sometimes I wouldn't bother pumping it up at all to leave more mana to play bigger creatures/spells. Other times, I'd pump it up as big as I could get it to inflict as much damage as possible on my opponent. Frozen Shade also taught me about timing. Many new players (myself included) would cast spells like Giant Growth and activate abi... (see all)

I can't believe this guy is rated under a 2... for shame :( A staple beater for black for many years, and tough to handle.
3/5

I remember when I was first learning how to play I would abuse this card because we all thought it was a permanent ability. It would end up as like a 35/36

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but I don't understand why they made shades splashable but their ability mono. Had that cost been green, or red, or anything else, I'd get it. Had it had two abilities that were the same, but one costed black and the other green, I'd get it.
Instead you have something that can be splashed, but is really mediocre if you do.
To those wondering why this is so downrated, remember that Nantuko Shade has been around for a good 15 years+

Why is it until end of turn? It looks like it stays forever.
