But with this black is actually nicer than white: Gloom is only crippling, but Karma is deadly.

Gloom is deceptive, and appears as a low-threat at first. Then you realize that this thing is a brutal control element for Black against white decks.
With a 3CC, this guy is very inexpensive for what it does. Blue/Black decks should look at this guy extensively for control combos.

Typical color hoser card. This one is painful when you are playing white, especially since it can come out on turn 1 with a dark ritual. It takes 5 mana to disenchant it. Ouch. I pretty much hate all of these color hosers.

The White Weenie deck archetype relies on low-casting cost creatures coming out fast and pummeling an opponent into submission before their deck ever gets off the ground. A turn 1 Gloom, via Dark Ritual, will spell instant doom for any white deck. Suddenly, White Knight becomes 3WW to cast. Same for Order of Leitbur. Savannah Lions cost as much as a Hill Giant! Forget ever trying to play Serra Angel. And now all those awesome Circles of Protection require an activation cost of 4! The most ironic part of this card is that "taxing" (i.e. Ghostly Prison) has largely become the domain of white.
