Each Time Spiral card was an homage to at least one previously printed card.
This card references Carnophage, which means "flesh-eater" whereas Sangrophage means 'blood-eater."

Should've been a 4/4. It doubles Carnophage's mana cost and upkeep cost, why not complete the effect with P/T? Barrow Ghoul is a 4/4 zombie for 2 CMC...

I've play-tested these in my Suicide Black deck - absolutely horrendous. More times than not you've got them tapped because you can't afford to lose the two life, or you can't deal enough damage per turn to not worry about losing the two life.

Not even in theory, actually. It would be better than Carnophage if it had been a 4/4 for BB for 2 life loss, or a 3/3 for BB with 1 life loss. Carnophage is good for his 2 for 1 ratio, damage and cc. Sangrophage has a 1.5 for 1 ratio with the same variables. Strictly worse than Carnophage at first glance.
