More like an Opal Gargoyle that turns into an Abbey Gargoyle, hmm?

An Opal Guardian that turns into an Abbey Gargoyle.
Very nice.

Nearly every card in Time Spiral block was a throwback to at least one previously printed card.
This card references both Abbey Gargoyles and the cycle of Opal creatures from Urza's Block, like Opal Titan.

It probably reminds you of Abbey Gargoyles because it's directly based on it? Anyway, it's pretty cool. Most opponents will play a creature at some point, so you are effectively getting a 3/4 flying pro-red creature for WWW.

Reminds me of Abbey Gargoyles for some strange reason.

Why didn't they call this Abbey Gargoyle Guardian?

Abbey Gargoyle's problem was that it cost too much. But this is sensibly costed for a mono-white deck, and with the Opal Gargoyle's "comes to life" mechanic, this is a solid card. The creature itself dodges all red removal, and doesn't even die to Ghostfire due to its 4 toughness.
