This printing is so washed out it is not nearly as collectable as the Unlimited version. I wonder what an ultra hard to find Summer of Magic version looks like?
I agree that it makes sense that this card remained uncommon while Sera Angel and Sengir Vampire moved on to rare. However, when I was playing this card when I thirteen I would not have made much of a distinction.

good solid clasic card, and it makes sense they moved serra and sengir up to rare, as they totally beat this up. in the revised era blue casual deck this was often your beater as you tried to counter everything else.

During the early day's of Magic, Air Elemental often found itself compared to the likes of Serra Angel and Sengir Vampire. Air Elemental was strictly inferior to these other two uncommons, lacking Vigilance and the ability to obtain +1/+1 counters. But Air Elemental was no slouch. Often aided in aerial combat by Phantom Monster and Phantasmal Force, Air Elemental was an integral part of many blue decks. And while both Serra Angel and Sengir Vampire were turned into rares, Air Elemental remained an uncommon through its various reprintings, and is highly regarded as a well-costed, efficient flier.
