I run this in my Simic Deck along with Zegana and a Primordial Hydra. If you don't think this guy can be a threat, try him in a situation like that, add in a few master biomancers, some forced adaptations, and increasing savagery or two, and a Asceticism out (yes I have done all of this) and tell me that he's not a threat.

Another + to this guy is that, if your opponent tries to mind control it, it'll die if they have no +1/+1 counters on their own creatures instead of being used against you.
