Fool, what will you do without your Paths and Bolts?? I so want this card. Even in a highlander format.

Soupr_dork, in case you have not gotten your answer yet, let me examine this issue with you.
"
When Emrakul is put into a graveyard from anywhere, its owner shuffles his or her graveyard into his or her library.
"
That looks like a good-ol' triggered ability to me. Had it said something like:
"If Emrakul would be put into a graveyard, instead" blah blah
then that would be a different story.

So you have your Extirpate in your hand, black mana ready. The fat Eldrazi hits the graveyard. It actually goes to the graveyard. When it is put into the graveyard, its triggered ability goes on the stack. Then you say,
"In response to his triggered ability upon hitting the yard..... EXTIRPATE that (so-and-so)!!"
As soon as you do so (unless he has morphed creatures), grab the cards ... (see all)

The left side of the card was my face when I saw the card's effect.
The rice sight was when I saw the price.

love how it can hit nonbasic land as well...wasteland a dark depths and and hit it with this. In today's Legacy environment it's a viable in the Main Deck.

Its really amazing, considering how some people put four copies of one win con in a deck lately (cough-Jace, the Mind Sculptor-cough)

Extirpate vs. Surgical Extraction
Both 5/5
Extirpate - Split Second
Surgical Extraction - Phyrexian mana
Fantastic cards. I want a playset (at minimum) of both.

IMO this card is is better than cranial extraction, thought hemorrhage, and haunting echoes.. It's very cheap in comparison, has split second, but the only bad thing is that you can only target a creature that's in the graveyard.

Its a combo-crippling card, especially effective when used against decks that unearth creatures alot
