I think this deserves props just for being one of the iconic burn spells. When you hear "Name a burn spell," I can guarantee a LOT more people's first response is gonna be "Lava Axe" over say "Hammer of Bagardan"

Red is so rich in burn cards, there are just so few times you'd want to opt for a narrow card like Lava Axe over more versatile alternatives.

A reasonable chunk of life - but not that efficient. This is a good example of cards that new players will play - but soon progress past once they understand the efficiency of creatures or the flexibility of burn that can also hit creatures.

Solid card but as dk101 stated there are better burn cards.

Fact: lava becomes more deadly when shaped like an axe (I'm a geologist i know these things)
