With regard to the heavy armor and first-strike, keep in mind that first-strike in the early days of the game was generally seen as using something like a lance to impale the foe before they could get their own melee weapons on you. Hence, "Lance" being the card that granted first-strike. So, knights with first-strike (Black Knight, White Knight, etc.) does make sense.

Cool card, but I like Concerted Effort more for the {1} more mana. (then you have to have a First Strike creature for your others to get First Strike I realize, but still)

@Sironos Two points; A. Contrary to popular belief, plate armor doesn't make you move slower. B. Assassins rarely even fought in combat and therefore wouldn't have any use for first strike.

Knights in mtg get first strike primarilly because a knight's preferred weapon while mounted was classically a Lance. Longer weapon means you hit first.

Alternatively knights also get first strike to exemplify their skill in combat. As sombody who loves to study medieval warfare I can honestly say that the best trained warriors in the medieval world were hands down the Knights of Europe.

As far as the card goes, I really like it. I used to use it in my knight deck before concerted effort came out. My only complaint is that Knighthood is pretty near useless in a knight deck. Most knights already have first strike and most knight decks probably run Kinsbaile Cavalier. Still my soldier deck could use a bit of knighting....

Shouldn't this make your creatures knights?

The art is so contradicting to the flavor text.
"Oh, you say that kings don't make knights? hmm...look up, silly flavor text."

Plate mail doesn't make you move slower? How about you put on some plate mail and I'll put on some tennis shoes and gym shorts and we can go jugging...
