black and red wards are slightly better than the rest for obvious reasons. still. lame.

Black Ward, like all the other Wards, has been made a laughing stock by power creep. For this cycle in particular, this happened a long time ago. This having been said, Black Ward is most useful in a deck that uses both black and white. Stick this on your favorite creature, and then sweep the board with Pestilence. Better yet, stick this on Crypt Rats and let them do their thing. Even better if you manage to get Spirit Link on the rats.

Eppek, none of those would work. Protection from Black wouldn't stop Pestilence from damaging the enchanted creature.

Not good for anything except a sideboard unless you have some way of turning all creatures black (It exists). I'm typically against any cards the mention specific colors, way to limited in use.
