Goblin decks tend to run stuff like goblin grenade so he dies still even if you power him up..

@bijart_dauth: AFAIK, that's why they reprinted all these effects with the magis: because unlike your Coffers or Library of Alexandria, or here, your Moat, these guys are vulnerable to destruction spells, or direct damage. Enchants, artifacts, and especially lands are somewhat difficult to get rid of, but EVERYONE packs creature removal of some sort. In fact, if these cards lacked a body, they'd be considered waaay above par as cards, and if you were to look at the cards that these magi were based upon, you'd see that instantly.

To you young whippersnappers:

Lightning Bolt was out of the game for a really long time, and wasn't really on the tip of everyone's tongue (since it went through a drought without a reprint)...doom blade hadn't even been thought up yet.

i wish he was a little better protected. 0/4 would be nice, although i think shroud would be overpowered. just some way so that a bolt or doom blade wouldn't kill it.

Moat is great. Moat was part of 'The Deck'. Time Spiral still had Rift Bolt. I believe the correct toughness IS 4, even though Doom Blade/Terror and Lightning Bolt were gone for a while.

This guy right here is almost the sole reason why I run 4 Incinerate in my Aurochs deck.

Not a powerhouse, for obvious reasons (he easily dies to removal), but it can still be annoying and perhaps buy you a few turns.

If they are spirits... why isn't it a "Spirit Wizard"?

Nearly every card in Time Spiral block was a throwback to at least one previously printed card.

This card references Moat and is part of the "Magus" super cycle of rare creatures. The Future Sight part of the cycle focuses on powerful enchantments, even matching the mana cost; the others are Magus of the Future, Magus of the Abyss, Magus of the Moon, and Magus of the Vineyard.

The Time Spiral part of the cycle focuses on powerful artifacts: Magus of the Candelabra, Magus of the Disk, Magus of the Mirror, Magus of the Jar, and Magus of the Scroll. The Planar Chaos cycle focuses on powerful lands: Magus of the Bazaar, Magus of the Coffers, Magus of the Tabernacle, Magus of ... (see all)
