@Paleopaladin: There's a rule that specifically handles the case where a land is set to a basic land type without an "in addition to its other types" clause, where this makes the land lose all of its other abilities. This includes the "Dryad arbor is green" ability. This doesn't affect a permanent's other card types, so this effect doesn't make Dryad Arbor stop being a creature.

Works well for me with Mortal Combat because it ups the percentage of creatures in the deck significantly without playing less lands.

I did something very silly with this once. Followed Footsteps + Doubling Season...
Not an outstanding card; dies to creature destruction AND land destruction. Can't be tapped when it CIP unless it has haste, can't swing if tapped (although that wouldn't be very smart to begin with). Worst of both worlds, if you ask me. Cool idea, poor execution.
