I run a couple in my Infinite Fishies deck, just to deter fliers and fatties from taking sizeable chunks out of my army and/or life total. That, and the flavor text just conjures such a badass image. :D

Direct damage (to creatures) in {W}, although most of the time you run this will be with merfolk tribal, even by itself he can still handle X/1 and if you're really in a pinch you can block with him then activate his ability to trade with an X/3

Enjoyable card. this combined with the Courtly Provocateur, death time. The Provocateur is a wizard and the Sniper is a merfolk, so both of them get the 1 less mana cost from the stonybrook banneret as well.

Great in W/U Merfolks. A great deterrent for your opponent to attack.

Yes having a harpoon sniper in your white/blue lifegain/mill deck might be fun, but remember it it's not for anyone else =D.

has potential with greatbow doyen and mirror entity out, so with a given mana base to even have it all out you can start that combo off doing 4 damage to a creature and player at the same time

SOLID four out of five. It beats trample, assign damage as if it wasn't blocked, flying, shadow, can't be blocked, first strike, wither, haste and a whole lot of other abilities that people value in creatures. The ONLY thing it can't kill is protection, assuming you have some other merfolk around.
Goodbye Baneslayer Angel to my 2/2 for 3 common merfolk.
