The advantage Portent has is that you can sabotage opponents with it. Ponder only works on you.
So, the ups and downs of the three cards:
-Brainstorm is an instant, but only works on you and you don't get the shuffle option.
-Portent works on any player, but is a sorcery and the draw is delayed.
-Ponder lets you shuffle, but it only works on you and is a sorcery.
Also, I like this art. Not really for the merfolk but for the water effects and the whole theme of "seeing the sky through the water's surface."

Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?

I'll say it since it's obviously on everybody's minds and nobody else seems willing to just get this out into the open.
Mermaid.
Nipples.

I like the ability to shuffle your library... I play 4x brainstorm since forever and usually use it first turn to extend my opening hand, but I'm really ***ed when I see that the next two turns are going to suck... so this is nice to just shuffle again and change the future. Being a sorcery is a little less tricky than brainstorm since you could draw a counterspell in the right time, but I hardly keep a brainstorm in hand anyway.

Whats better ponder or preordain? "I like Ponder, because the Lorwyn version has a naked merfolk on it." -Craig Wescoe Worlds 2010

Auto 4-of in just about any blue deck right now. It's nice to see that Wizards haven't completely killed blue's draw spells... Now we want some good 2-mana counterspells.
