On a side note, I like how clerics/monks tend to be the creature type of choice for lifegain/pain decks. I dunno I just like the flavour. Carry on.

or he's a Kithkin, Salient. Their eyes are like that.
Also, usually you don't see cards that are underlings (eg. "Servant of...", "Apprentice", "Initiate") that are that great. Painter's Servant and Ink-Eyes are black sheep.
I mean, logically, it doesn't make sense for a beginner in something to be good at it. The master to this would be a 1/2 Kithkin with Angel's Feather on it, because it does the job better.

you may have multiple Apothecary initaite's in play but still only pay one mana of you choosing to gain the X life where x is however many of this creature you control, also goes for ivory cup under the same circumstances.
