@TPmanW, there's no such thing as Venerable Mentor.
R/B elemental deck. This guy, Kulrath Knight, and Arcane Teachings for your other black critters is an easy way to lock down your opponent. Then again, Kulrath + Teachings by itself works, too. Corrosive Mentor just makes sure everything you have will be tacking on those -1/-1 counters as well.

Multiple instances of wither is redundant, it's a replacement effect, basically, instead of dealing damage, you put -1/-1 counter on them. So once the damage has been replaced, it won't matter if the creature has wither twice or 3 times since the ability doesn't go on the stack.

This is one of the best mentors, even better if you have Kulrath Knight. It's a hard combo to fight against since they're both black creatures.

I definite additition to my necroskitter deck !! This is simple yet effective card. 3 casting for a 1/3 with wither awesome synergy.
