It's useful, and very versatile.
You wouldn't want to run it in a deck that's using more than those two colors, since it becomes less likely that you will be able to pay for its cost.

Anthony Waters did such a good job on the FS art! Why did they change it? Also, this seems to be the general opinion around here, so why does the Shadowmoor version cost a dollar or two more every place I look?

Though the art looks dull, this card is very useful and basically prevents color-screw as well as just being a good mana converter.
