This "punisher" mechanic fits hydrid mana so well. This doesn't break the color pie even if you're playing it in mono-red / mono-black, as your opponent always has the option to make it a discard spell or a burn spell.
If only there were more like this. Something like a green-white hybrid spell that Wraths unless they let you put five 1/1 Saprolings into play.

Abyssal Nocturnus and Megrim would love this card.
Of course, then most people would rather take the 7...

Wow. Sc umling really hates this type of card. Anyways, it's fairly decent, especially in a burn deck that can make the choice real agonizing for your opponent.

This is a rather difficult card to compare with any other... I mean, the discard ability is vastly undercosted compared to Wit's End (and in Red) and should be more ultimately lethal than a mass-discard spell like Mind Sludge....but the option out of it (paying 7 life) doesn't ensure you'll get that effect if you need it.
The 7 life loss is also undercosted compared to say Lava Axe (a Lava Axe in Black, mind you). But again, that discard effect can be chosen instead, and their hand may be a lower price to pay than the 7 life (although topdecking isn't usually too advantageous)
But screw comparison. For uniqueness and feel this card ROCKS!!! :D

You need to look at this like a 7 damage lava axe. Except in the later rounds when opponents have low cards in hand, then they would just drop their hand.
So its a mid-early game "magma" axe for black or red.
4/5

I like this card, 7 life is pretty much but discarding your hand is even worse at times.

Works pretty well if you Dark Ritual it out turn three. About then 7 life can swing the game in your favour, and they often don't want to lose what's in their hand at that point.
Plus, I have one of these in foil, and it's quite simply the best foil I've ever seen. It's getting used.

I love the flavor of this card, it makes your opponent agonize about which choice to make between two horrible ones. and they have to decide so whichever it is they feel bad about their choice

Not the most effective way to use discard... At least, its no friend to megrim. Turn five you could have already killed with a Wheel and Deal and a Windfall.
I dunno about how useful this card is. If you wanna get rid of their hand, on turn five, two blightnings would have done it, with 6 damage and 4 cards down, for just one more mana.

I don't like it, because 7 is actually not a huge deal for 5 mana.
