"8 mana to Derpy Derp Derp"...

...the activation cost is 4 (Four) mana. You pay 4 (Four) to cast this, and then 4 (Four) to activate it. You only need to pay the casting cost once. You often times won't need to activate the Pentagram in the same turn you cast it, and even so, you only have to pay the casting cost 1 (One) time. Once again, the Pentagram of the Ages costs 4 (Four) mana to activate, not 8 (Eight).
