Combos great with Wickerbough Elder and makes creatures smaller if they're too big for it to kill, so it is always useful. Sometimes Lightning Bolt just doesn't deal enough.

@ ClockworkSwordfish:

God I hope not. Lightning Bolt is quite good enough. What, are we gonna get a {R} instant that has infect and "deals 1.5 damage to target creature or player?" Well, more likely we're getting infect version of Shock, so it would be basically Scar/Scorching Spear.

Can't argue with 3 permanent damage to an opposing creature.

It still has a lot of uses but as a Kitchen Finks counter I think it's been made a little obsolete by Magma Spray

I utilize this card in my Blightning Burn together with some of the most efficient burn spells, I must tell, this card deals the nicest of damages..

Deals nicely with Chameleon Colossus and other dangerous fatties. Pretty good burn.
Edit: Lightning Bolt made this card suck. Like most other burn spells. Way to go, Wizards.

I was running with 4 Puncture Bolt until I discovered this card, its basically better in all aspects.

1 more colorless for an Incinerate that does permanent damage and can potentially kill indestructible creatures. Pretty versatile in my book and well worth the extra 1 colorless. 4/5

Makes me wonder if we're going to get an Infect burn spell...

5/5 for the flavor text.

Gatherer works better in the Companion app!
