@ChaoticNature: Because there's a thing called chump blocker that might cross your Colossus' way.
But i agree with the precedant comments, that's a cheap handy card with protection from several removal sources, can be pumped up comparably cheap and being a changeling, even finds use in a bunch of tribal decks.

once you pump this guy up, use Soul's Might in order to keep the boost. :D I wish I had 2 of these guys.

When Training Grounds is out, it just squares up its power so easily.
Just drop Rancor and you're good to go.

He's the best -insert creature type here-
Also, he's a better Kavu Chameleon than Kavu Chameleon.

The awesomeness of this card just increased. Today my good buddy had him, an Elvish Archdruid, a Perfect, and Onmath (his EDH general).
In our 4 way 1v1v1v1 EDH game another friend forced him to sac 2 attacking creatures with odds, with 255 mana in his pool he decided to dump his mana pool into Chameleon Colossus. 255/4 (the 2GG) is about 63, and Chameleon colossus at a 6/6 already became a massive 5.53e19/5.53e19 beast hitting with no blockers.
It was truly an epic finish to a well fought EDH round. that 5.53e19 is 55 Quintillon, 3000 Quadrillion for those that don't know the numbers.
