If you're running a purely BG deck with just one elf, marginally better than a Savage Lands.

I agree with Temple_Garden that there weren't any interesting elves in black for a dedicated Elf deck in Lorwyn/Shadowmoor. But I can't stress enough how greatly a nearly mono-colored deck benefits from flexible dual lands. Being able to cast those off-color spells when you need them can be critical, especially when we're talking about answers (spot removal, sweepers, etc.).

The drawback of this card is quite minimal... T1: put Palace into play, show your opponent your Llanowar Elves... and play your Llanowar Elves... and if you think you're not going to be slowed much, just let it come tapped.
As for not enough usable black elves... Sure, black elves are not that much great to be put in serious deck, but let's say Eyeblight's Ending is quite nice combined with Lys Alana Huntmaster, we have toys like Prowess of the Fair... and Glissa, the Traitor.

Handy, but I've never really liked showing my cards to my opponant. Still, the fact that your able to make it come into play untapped is strong.

The problem I found with this card is the black elves were just not great to play. Elf decks want to be fast, not messing around with discard. Sure creature removal in an elf deck was great, but if you splashed black for it why not just run Terror or Doom Blade instead of Lys Alana Scarblade? Moonglove Winnower was printed in the same set as Wren's Run Vanquisher. Eyeblight's Ending isn't a bad card to use with this, but aside from that, Gilt-Leaf Palace is pretty average with elves.

I notice there is very little overt influence in the art of this card.

How I would have loved to play BG elves when fearies was big. Man those where some great standard formats. The BG elves and the fearies decks where so even the games would often go to the wire. Lorwyn gave us a great standard environment.

Love that art. Not bad for an elf deck, usually they don't have too much in the way of black mana producers so this is pretty unique.

Too bad they didn't somehow reference Elves of Deep Shadow in this card. This seems like their hang out.
