A pretty good response against any animator, progenitus, darksteel ,or any single creature combo deck. Sure it doesnt quite match the efficiency of Path to Exile or Swords to Plowshares although it does penetrate protections and indirectly targets the strongest creatures. Sure you lose instant quality, and it costs 1 more mana, but you gain the element of surprise by regurgitating this old card, and your oppoent doesn't recieve any life or land bonus as the others provide. Could be a nice little spike in multiplayer as well.

Killing Wave requires more mana from you. Given that your opponent is more likely to have more life than mana or creatures, I don't trust Killing Wave at all. On top of that, Killing Wave is in a different color.

you'll normally want to use that if you don't have any creatures on your side.
therefore you'll preferably play this in a white control deck.
