I just love playing this with Dauntless Dourbark in my treefolk deck. The irony of having a huge angry tree slicing my foes with an axe almost makes them forget they got hit in the face by a huge trampler that just got on the field. Almost.

Nova Chaser swinging turn 4 for 12

Fairly intimidating in a Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer deck. My heart sinks watching my flatmate drop Jor on turn 4 or 5; this flips into his hand transforming him into a 10/4 first-striking monster (assuming metalcraft bu that point).

Obviously best in a warrior deck. I use this in Tolsimir Wolfblood EDH. The deck doesn't have a ton of synergy, but having this out really helps.
If you want haste, you can just use Lightning Greaves, but this clearly has a different angle to it.
For example, Brighthearth Banneret makes this cost less. Champion it with Unstoppable Ash, because you can.
Other than that, there are better equipment, if you aren't doing warriors. Sword of Vengeance comes to mind.

This reminds me a bit of Ronin Warclub for warriors. This can be quite devastating with proper support - Wrecking Ogre would swing for 10, and Nova Chaser for 12.
Other fun stuff:
- Run with Jor Kadeen, the Prevailer, Bleak Coven Vampires or Ezuri's Brigade, even helping to activate their Metalcraft abilities.
- The extra 1 toughness allows Hunted Troll to bust through his faery pursuers and survive without regenerating, even if your opponent blocks with them all at once.
- Viashino Sandstalker.

I would run this over Lightning Greaves in EDH if my general was a warrior. Shroud is a little overrated anyway in a format where, if they don't kill your creature in response to equipping Greaves, it's going to eat a board wipe soon anyway.
Specially... Brion Stoutarm? It buffs him to 6 power, which is even more relevant with lifelink. Then you can put the auto-equip to good use with other Giants, swinging and then flinging them with Brion.

maybe because the last letter of battle and the first letter of axe are both vowels. That'd be my guess.

This one is so OP in warrior deck. C'mon think Marisi's Twinclaws. On 3rd turn if not mana accel, you cast this, then turn four cast twinclaws and attack with 4/5 double strike haste (unless you have Bramblewood Paragon on the field)
