There are very few uses for this. The best may be to be able to use Fear, Dark Banishing/Doom Blade against inappropriate enemies, but besides spur-of-the-moment uses, I don't see much it can do.
One thing a friend of mine did with a similar card was change my Gift of the Deity's color choices and my Sapling of Colfenor's color choices to block a greater enemy's damage, but that was one instance of where this card may have been useful, though the instant that he cast was far more obviously useful.

How can you not find this useful? In Merfolk control this is pretty nice. Hang back with a cancel, and if they don't play anything you're completely against, flash this in before your turn begins and you have a free creature. Heck, with the right board position, say a few Merfolk Sovereign on the field, you could have a 3/2 or a 4/3 unblockable beatstick. If it was something stupid like a Lizard, or an Ox, I'd agree with you guys. But Merfolk is a very valid creature type with a variety of lords to pump with.

It's not the most mana efficient way to win, but it can be used with Coalition Victory to satisfy the colour requirements.

I got one in a Shadowmoor pack... Still haven't found a way to use it then.
And normally I'm good with these things.

Very situational ability, but I guess it can save the day against doom blade. Still not worth sideboard space but in kitchen table games, your collection is your sideboard.

Very narrow ability, but I can think of one use: give +10/+10 to a creature suddenly due to Might of the Nephilim, making it all colors. This can also rescue allies from Doom Blade, or turn things red so Lavinia of the Tenth can bypass them.
