These guys are acutally not too bad, as in a band against a red opponent, they can eat all the damage. Love the artwork on this as well, an old favorite.

Banding almost always brings the cost up by 1c, but it's well worth it, especially in this guys case.

I rate this card well because Magic is not always about brute effectiveness. Sometimes it's about flavor and art, and this is a classic in that regard. In modern times (if banding was still being printed) it would probably cost 2 colorless less, and at that price it would shut down some red decks. As-is, I still think of it fondly and use it in the occasional casual deck.
