All the devour creatures suffer from this sad fate. At least you can give this one trample easily.

Yeah! I devour all my wimpy creatures to make my viashino into a godzilla sized beast . . . then watch in disappointment as it gets killed by removal.

Although optional trample is nice, the only real playable viashino and/or critter with devour is obviously Thunder-Thrash Elder because of Devour 3.

I find it funny that the devour ability never mentions that is has to be your creatures sacrificed.

This worked really well in my poorly built haste/burn deck. First turn, I played a haste 1/1 creature and attacked. Second turn, I played quest for pure flame and another 1/1 creature (attacked). Third turn, I played lightning bolt and another 1/1 creature (attacked as well). Luckily, my opponent didn't want to block with his mana ramp creatures. So I had all three creatures to sacrifice to get an 8/8 on turn 4 that can deal double damage because of quest for pure flame.
Devour 1 doesn't make any sense to me though (2 seems alright if you have a bunch of 1/1s).

@Dannyman658
Maybe because Wizards assume that you would know that you can only ever Sacrifice permanents you control.
