Amazing card to build a deck around. Fun to play in casual with Conqueror's Pledge or Storm Herd and also plays very well with Twilight Drover.

Enormously useful card in a Saproling deck; all of your tokens start out at 3/3, and with Pallid Mycoderm, you could sacrifice 4 to make all the rest 7/7 and just wreck your opponent.
Also makes Kazandu Blademaster pop in as a 4/4 with First Strike and Vigilance for 2 mana.

For most purposes, Juniper Order Ranger is superior. The ranger is easier to cast, the ability stacks, and it affects all creatures (including the persist creatures that are not 2/2s). However, the captain is so much fun, and encourages 1/1 decks and plays completely different. My 1/1 decks include a playset of Captains, as well as two rangers. Between white and green, there are three 1/1 fliers for 1.

AWESOME combo with Ghave, Guru of Spores, as many creatures as you have mana. and they are all 2/2's. solid

Makes it a bit of a shame that the cat tokens produced by White Sun's Zenith are 2/2.
Also helps keep a weenie/token deck from getting hosed by Æther Flash. Saprolings and Doubling Season like this a lot.

No, I think this was for Saprolings and Soldier tokens. is the traditional color of Saproling decks (in Ravnica, at least. Time Spiral pushed too.) He does work well with goblins in block as well. Dragon Fodder drops a pair of Canyon Minotaurs.
And anyways, Wild Nacatl would NOT get counters unless you didn't have the Plains and Mountain out when he resolved. Check this guys rulings, he looks back at the creature to see if it is STILL a 1/1 at the time his ability resolves.

I've been researching this guy in standard and there are tons of options: Mobilization, Goblin Assault (you get a lightning bolt every turn), Verdant Force, Mycoloth, Oona, Rhys the Redeemed, Rise of the Hobgoblins, Creakwood Leige....the list goes on.

How about Sigil Captain, Muderous Redcap and Nantuko Husk? Seems like a near ideal infinite combo - play Redcap, 2 damage. Sack to husk, it persists. Put the damage trigger, the captain's trigger, and the persist trigger on the stack in that order... Redcap becomes 1/1, 3/3, deals three damage. Sack to husk and repeat: Husk becomes infinitely huge and Redcap deals infinite damage.
An infinite combo off of three cards in three colors... not terrible, as they go.
