I guess this guy is alright. At first, I said, "Why would I ever *not* wait until I could pay the kicker?" But then I saw he had haste. If you compare him to bloodbraid elves, he's a little worse, but still pretty cool, i guess. I would have preferred he was 3/2 haste destroy a nonbasic when he came into play and just pay 2RR right from the outset.

I like how all of the Kicker guys from Zendikar have powerful abilities that can't be abused by flickering them. Gatekeeper of Malakir would outstrip them all as the best. Like it already does.

Not great, but the kicker cost is. In case you haven't noticed, Zendikar has A LOT of nonbasic lands.

All one needs to do to see how devastating this little dude can (at least in Standard/Limited) be is watch the pro-tour San Diego '10 coverage.
As was said before, Zen block has so many awesome NB lands that there's something for everyone & they are everywhere. Knocking out manlands & so many others your opponent has waited to use/untap with one tiny goblin is mean as hell. Not to mention swinging in for 2 at the same time. I'd say that's pretty damn good for 3cc. Not many other guys his size who can get as much done as they hit. (This is the same reason I adore Hellhole Rats, which does even more for 4cc.)
Even in Extended, killing a Rav karoo that they just worked so hard to get out is pretty cold.
Love it.
