Pillage (Alliances) is older than Demolish (Odyssey).
Can't say one's better than the other. You want 3 CMC over 4 usually, but Demolish is easier to splash in an otherwise non-red deck, and versatile removal like this is always worth having in any deck.

Well if you equip a dryad arbor with regeneration then it could regenerate but not if you kill it with this. Fantastic card for LD 3.5/5

That said, this card is devastating. I've built a land destruction deck using some of these (yeah I know it's boring as **** to play against, but it's generally cheap to build one, and pretty fun to use myself), and boy are they doing a good job. It even doubles as artifact destruction when you need it - no wonder the high rating, this card is incredible.

Not bad cost for land destruction but the non regenerating part and the option of destroying artifacts make this a amazing card for its cost defintily in my top 10 for best cards.
