I think it should have been a 4/3. I'd be much happier to have that one extra damage, and much more worried about having a 4/3 flier attacking me if I lost control of it. I know it's only one point of damage, but it makes all the difference. I guess they left the toughness at 4 so you couldn't lightning bolt it right after your opponent got control.

The Skycaptain is strong in a land destruction deck, as your opponent will typically be unable to hold onto him for more than a turn (if that.)

It's very red, and fairly strong...

This seems nice with Zedruu, the Greathearted.

Not only a good inclusion in a Zedruu, the Greathearted Commander deck, but also good with Bazaar Trader (which should be in your Zedruu deck too): just give the Skycaptain which became too expensive to your opponent at end of your turn, watch him fail to pay for the captain and get it back freshly reset. Solid card if built around properly. 3.5/5

This looks like it could be pretty cool in edh.

Neat effect and flavor. Also a red Mercenary for tribal!

"wait, it doesn't have doublestrike and trample? What a ripoff!" I love the old cards so much. They had an actual feel to them, unlike the flavourless drivel pumped out now...
