I'm surprised this one's rating isn't closer to Pestilence's. Pestilence for one less mana with such a minuscule drawback deserves a higher rating than it has now.

Interesting to note that the oracle wording has changed this card's functionality somewhat. Whereas previously it referred to a specific card by name (Snow-Covered Swamp), it now works off of any card that has both the Snow Supertype and the Swamp subtype. If you turned your Scrying Sheets into a swamp with Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, for example, or put an ice counter on an existing Swamp with Rimefeather Owl, and either of those lands would now count towards your "snow Swamp" count.

Will this make a difference in any future game of Magic that will ever be played? My money's on no, probably not.

Also note that you CAN use black mana from any source whatsoever to pay for the ability, you just can't activate it more times than you have snow Swamps. Usually these two are the same thing, but not always. You could, theoretically, tap all your snow Swamps for damage on your turn, then on your o... (see all)

As far as I know Cabal Coffers works just fine with Snow-Covered Swamps.

Don't forget that snow is a land subtype- in a multicolored deck you can run Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth or Blanket of Night to turn your snow lands of other colors into snow swamps.

Cabal Coffers does work with snow swamps, but you still wouldn't be able to use all that mana on this.

Strictly better than Pestilence if you have enough snow-covered swamps in your collection.

Pestilence with Coffers > this with snow swamps

While this is quite good, Pestilence is better *some* of the time; noteably anytime you ramp via rituals, coffers, or some other situations that ramp incredible amounts of black mana into your pool.

Because of this, this card can only ever be used with ramping in an opponent's turn (pay most of your swamps in yours, leave some open for instant speed ramping in the opponent's to get more out of the enchant.)

Pesti is much easier to use and also.. much less annoying to keep track of. Still a good 3.5/5 or 4/5 card given the power, but it's much less abusable.

I also can't believe that the rating is so low, it's a cheaper Pestilence with the only drawback that you can't use coffers with it... BUT it works VERY well with Extraplanar Lens, due to the fact that nobody else is going to use snow-swamps giving you all the benefit.

This should be a 5/5 card

@Overfiend Surprise and other naysayers of this. Cabal Coffers and this DO combo, but not within the same turn.

Example, with three swamps, you can do this:
Your turn:
use Cabal Coffers and hit for 3 damage.

Enemy Turn:
Use Dark Ritual, and hit for 3 damage.

With more than 3 swamps, you can do this:
Your turn:
use Cabal coffers and hit for X damage.

Enemy Turn:
Tap the rest of your lands for the rest of the damage.

It is still the same damage output from Pestilence, but the key difference is that this is one mana cheaper, while Pesti can do it all on the same turn.
