Negative psyklone. The old rule still applies to banding. You get to assign your opponent's creature's combat damage any which way you want when it's coming at a band, meaning the 1/1 could take it all.

702.19k During the combat damage step, if a blocking creature is blocking a creature with banding,
or both a creature with “bands with other ” and another creature, the
active player (rather than the defending player) chooses how the blocking creature’s damage is
assigned. That player can divide that creature’s combat damage as he or she chooses among any
number of creatures it’s blocking. This is an exception to the procedure described in rule 510.1d.

Sorry Frag. The new combat rules mean creatures all have "Creature-Trample". Their damage spills over onto each blocker till its all assigned.
Old rules meant that the 1/1 could take the hit, and others in the band would be ok.

However if you're refering to instant blockers, you can get 2 soldiers for the same price.
