I really appreciate Wizards printing cheap alternatives to the somewhat pricy dual lands from M10. It's almost enough to forgive them for making the walletslayer.

Although in a lot of situations the other dual lands are better, a minor bonus and a being an uncommon is nice. It's a nice step up from Shivan Oasis to say the least.

How about instead of pain lands, we have gain lands!

How this land is rated below 4 right now is beyond me. Umm... it is a multi-land who's only drawback is that it is tapped.... and you gain a life to help offset.

5/5

Dual lands are good even with the drawback of coming into play tapped. +1 life is a small but nice bonus.

I agree, how this can be rated less than a 4 is hard to justify. Granted the original duel lands are better but you aren't gonna get any better than a one turn delay plus a life. And I have never played a game where gaining a life is bad. For Eltervag, the fact that it was a hinder must have been a one out of a 1000 games where it was bad. And an uncommon. If I had them I would so play them.

I actually wish that you had the option to gain the life. Gaining life can hurt at times.

Dual lands that always come into play tapped are useless jank in competitive play unless they have major upside, such as being a manland. Fine for casual play, though. Nice budget option for casual players.

I don't like the fact that Wizards obsoleted these perfectly playable lands with a better cycle of rare duals one set later (eg. Raging Ravine).

These are not strictly better than lands like Shivan Oasis for the purposes of Rain of Gore. However, speed is the aim of most RG or RUG decks. Raging Ravine makes up for this with a sweet backup plan. Rootbound Crag is old hat by now, but is a solid piece of manafixing. The real breakout mana all-star of these archetypes was Lotus Cobra + Misty Rainforest.
