@Evermint Prophetic Prisms and borderposts cover two completely different fields. With a borderpost you tap a land, put the tapped land in your hand, then put the borderpost on the field tapped. From then on it is used as a dual land, but, it's an artifact. With prophetic prism, you tap two land and, draw a card. From then on, it's used as a mana converter; in order to add mana of any color you need to tap a land.
Read the cards more closely.

Completely underestimated the borderposts. When I initially laid eyes upon the spoiler and saw these I thought "why in the name of Urza's Mechanical Shorts would anyone want to use this garbage?
A first turn borderpost and a second turn "goldblade" creature, ie:Jund Hackblade most assuredly changed my opinion drastically and in a really friggan hurry.

The borderposts cover a small niche with the gold-bordered blades. The Veinfine is easily the most useful as its corresponding blade, the Hackblade, is a very early, very scary threat. The accompanying Grimblade isn't a bad t2 either.
It's really a hit or miss with these things. Prophetic Prisms are better in almost every other way these days, but for pauper goldblade decks, borderposts are a necessity.

So, you can play this turn 1 if you have a basic land. Drop a land, tap it, return it to your hand, and play Veinfire Borderpost .

Yeah, first turn borderpost into a shardblade never gets old.

Personally I never really liked the borderposts, (don't really play reborn a lot... outta cash when it came out >_>) but I guess they're fairly decent.

dual lands dont come in tapped, dont require that you return something/ cost 3 mana, or get screwed like artifacts......
You wish you had dual lands :P

At least in standard, aside from artifact decks and Knight of the White Orchid the main use for borderposts is for colored-permanent orientated cards, like the blades or Mirror-Sigil Sergeant. However, their drawback is pretty big, especially with Jund and Maelstrom Pulse so prevalent. Being able to destroy 1 'land' for 3 mana is bad enough, but potentially being able to get 2-4 depending on your draws is just nasty.

@pwdrrider
This isn't an artifact land, which means mana ramp for black/red.
