Shatter is one of those cards which usefulness totally depends on the format you're playing it in.
From a casual perspective without format restrictions (or Vintage and Legacy), it has become complete trash over the years, inferior to Ancient Grudge, Shattering Spree and Smash to Smithereens for example.
In the current Standard it can have some use if you don't play green for Naturalize and in Mirrodin Block it was almost a Terror.

Not the best Artifact killer, but certainly not the worst either.
Say what you will about this spell; you'll play it in your sideboards and be thankful for it.

My favourite part about this card, is that everyone is always talking about cards as would be used in Standard, and then they complain about this card and are bringing up others like it that can only be used in eternal formats now. Doesn't make any friggin' sense at all.

I would hardly call this a bad card... sure, there are some more powerful red artifact smiters that have come out in years past, but a 1R instant smash is almost always effective. In the current standard format, I'll take this at practically any time. There are soooo many cheap artifacts that come out early, and this will make quick work of them.
It would be hillarious to throw this on an Isochron Scepter and totally shut down and artifact deck, lol

Why do they keep reprinting one of red's worst artifact destroyers?
Since this is Magic 2010, they could simply have added a new Shatter variant for {{R}} only.
This would mirror red's capability of destroying artifacts more nicely.
Well, at least they used the Mirrodin artwork and flavour text...

I would like to rate this card 4/5. For those who are saying that this is useless I would disagree. This card is a great sideboard. Yes, Demolish is somewhat better but to cast this spell it only cost 1R quite handy if you are up against Eldrazi Decks.

I agree with Erikmetal, I added 3 of these to a Red Burn sideboard just for Eldrazi Monument, and Its spectacular when you shutdown the evasion wincon.
