I presume it comes into play, then the ability checks your opponents life total; detecting 10 or less. This then triggers it's ability (which is placed on the stack) and it becomes a creature that is no longer an enchantment.
Correct me if I am wrong... but it should be possible to briefly destroy it before it becomes a creature by playing disenchant (or similar) whilst it's ability is on the stack before it resolves.

It's a cool card and not a bad one, either, but Guul Draz Vampire's probably going to be better.

If you play this after your opponent has been reduced to less then 10 life, what happens? Would it come into play as an enchantment, then immediately change to a creature?

This guy could be really amazing with a board sweep that only affected creatures, like Wrath of God. If you could then rip off some direct damage like Drain Life or something comprable, you'd have a nice squadron of attackers to finish the job.

For this Job you should choose Lurking Skirge.
