Erik's Random card 6/5/2011
Magic 2010 was our first set to have reprinted cards as Mythic Rares. Aaron Forsythe (the lead designer) asked me (the lead developer) to name a few cards, other than the Lorwyn Planeswalkers, that came to mind as cards which could be reprinted as Mythic Rares. I came up with Darksteel Colossus, Platinum Angel, and Time Warp. He was doing this primarily to test my instincts; this was my first lead, and he had to know what he was getting.
Platinum Angel is a very clear Mythic Rare. "You can't lose the game" is super cool, but only in very small doses. From the development side, there isn't much to say. She was in the design hand off, and I never considered replacing her.

Hi! My name is Control Magic and I want to be your friend!
Jokes aside, this is obviously an amazing creature, and one of the best potential effects in the history of MTG. There are ways around it, but it simply can't be ignored.

A very deserving candidate for the relatively new mantle of Mythic Rarity. I like that this is in the core set because it absolutely epitomizes the power that cards have to override the rules; when my friend told me about this card while I was still a newbie, I was convinced it couldn't be real. But nope...in Magic, nothing's impossible.

I HATE THIS CARD! Every time my friend plays it its so annoying! i would win almost every game if it wasn't for this card. Although there are many ways to get rid of it, its still annoying. Almost as much as Coalition Honor Guard.

You can do even better (in my eyes) than the Master Transmuter trick by putting Momentary Blink on Isochron Scepter (or just casting it as is). You only need one Angel for this, because the game doesn't check for state-based actions during the Blink's resolution, which is the only time it's out of play, yet it will still foil targeted removal. (Yes, shroud would be more effective, but the Blink and Scepter are more fun and more flexible than most shroud-granting options.)
On an unrelated note, I love the design of this card. This line of text couldn't go on a card that was just an enchantment or an artifact or a creature, because each of those cards would have colors unable to deal with them once they're in play; but put it on an artifact creature, and suddenly everyone can kill it (or at least bounce it, which is good enough).

One of the best cards in the game. Able to stand up to any single burn card, give it shroud and you've basically won the game. Followed Footsteps and this are basically an unstoppable combo unless they Wrath of God or something, its a combo that can't be stopped in later stages because there's simply too many of them.

I like this card. It has answers, as has been said, but that's true of every card out there, and the effect is an extremely potent one. It also stands up to Pacifism and most burn. If nothing else, it's a must-remove threat that can't be allowed to stay on the field, in the most literal possible sense.

I think it is funny for me to keep track of my negative health with this card. Platinum Angel really likes to dress up in a Whispersilk Cloak :)

I once saw a game where this card was pulled out against a player and he was in top-deck mode, he pulls a card, smiles, and plays Mirrorweave on a Feral Hydra he had in play! It was the fumiest loss I've ever seen!
