"Octopus. (Octo = 8)
8 tentacles.
8 mana to cast
8 mana for the ability.
8 tapped cards.
8 power.
8 toughness.
Card #53 (5 + 3 = 8) "

In an expansion called Zendikar (8 character name)... I just brokes yur "8 instances of 8" theory... it's now 9 instances.

@Kragash

It's clearly the legendary 9 pieces of eight unbound. Calipso would be proud.

Would someone please give an example of what Mythic Worthy is!

Because in my opinion Lorthos the Tidemaker is the perfect example of what is mythic.
. He is a legend, which adds flavour
. He has a new, flavorful ability
. He has the 8.8.8.8.8 theme

Arguably he has his own quest, the Quest for Ula's temple, as he is the only octopus in Zendikar/Worldwake.

Okay he is never likely to see constructed play, at least not competitive although I reckon he is a popular EDH general, Mono Blue Stall, until Lorthos locks them down. We will see. However, how can anyone say Lorthos should not be mythic. Next people will be complaining how Akroma Angel of Wrath and Baneslayer should not be mythic. Okay utility cards such as Lotus Cobra its annoying to mythic them meaning casual players cannot afford them but what do you want to be mythic!

Okay, you people are blind. Seriously, are you ready for this?

1. Look at the mana cost.
2. Then the power.
3. Now the toughness.
4. The "pay 8".
5. The "tap up to eight".

You guys are only able to go this far when you really should...

6. Count the lines in the text box.
7. Add the first two digits of the collector's number.
8. Check the number of hedrons in the art. Seriously, check 'em.

There you have it, EIGHT INSTANCES OF EIGHT. Be sure to pick up your bricks on the way out.

If I somehow got 16 mana, could I use his ability twice?

That seems slightly overkill, but I want to try it.

Like Saha says, totally Cthulhu-esque. I'm diggin' it flavor-wise but I don't know if I'd ever really play it...

This guy pretty much embodies what I think all mythics should be - Ridiculously expensive, but basically a game win if you get them out and they aren't removed.

By the way, he'd go great with Magosi, the Waterveil.

This should be shuffled to it's owners library when killed, because mighty Cthulhu doesn't really die, it just sleeps. And mighty Katholoo sure doesn't die to terror or Blades of Doom
