The art is awesome.

Yet another artwork of thallid, as customary during fallen empires. It got to confusing when people didn't recognize the card from the artwork, so Wizards cut back to only one artwork for a card, barring reprints. I think they made the right decision. This guy is ok, but Utopia mycon is better i think. It may have no power, but it can accelerate your mana.

Sure, they are slow, but how many 1/1 creatures for G can eventually build an army of fungal clones? Cool flavor.

Do all 3 spore counters have to be from the same thallid?

Fallen Empires had a lot of flaws, but cards like these are what I feel rescues it from the nadir of sets like Homelands or Prophecy -- while it had a lot of bad cards, it was still willing to experiment with new ideas here and there, and some of them were decent. In particular, Fallen Empires was the first set to take tentative steps towards making token swarm decks playable.
Thallids were hardly overpowering, but they were a cool idea that was both mechanically and thematically interesting, using both tokens and counters in a way players hadn't really seen before. And they were just fun to play, all else aside.
