I think is was a good idea to make Lord the main-stage card for the deck. Even though nearly everyone will concur that Reiver Demon is better (not strictly, mind you), it's not a Lord of something, and it hasn't been around since the beginning of the game.
I think many old fans appreciated it. Good job, guys.

Just use Reassembling Skeleton or Soul Foundry with a 1 mana card for Lord of the Pit and others like him.

The original Portuguese translation of the card makes it clear that you sacrifice a creature "in his honor." I think this wording should be restored and made universal.

A true classic with classic demon falvor:
Pay off your debt each turn or get it in the face much worse.
And the fact that this demon is powerful enough to force its all-powerful summoner to pay up is quite impressive indeed.

When I saw this art, I bought the cards. Simple as that.
Doesn't see a lot of play in my decks due to costing 7 and having not only a drawback but no way around his cost. With so many efficient demons (see Abyssal Persecutor for example) it's hard to justify him;
except that art and that flavor. He just *feels* big and *feels* better. When cheaper cards get huge numbers those numbers feel less important. When this guy hits I think "WHOA 7 power!?", even though one can just Rancor a Woolly Thoctar T3 or T4.
Something about huge, beautiful cards that makes the Timmy in me love the demons.

??! wth is with people nowadays?
THE way to play LoP is with an army black weenies (knights and specters and such), and dark rituals and similar efects. throw in a little mind twist, write up a Contract from Below to keep those little 1 2 and 3 cmc snacks coming, and if you feel your army of darkness' morale faltering, sing a Hymn to Tourach! In his native environment Lord of the Pit will wipe the floor with a player running Akroma, before Akroma ever sees the table! (eh... in mono-white, at least hehe)
All hail the Lord of the pit!

So... The flavor text is implying that this demon is capable of collecting on that debt...
Wow. That's some powerful demon.
