He might be a bit small for his cost, but his protection is made so much better in light of the fact he can be easily searched out when needed.

Protection from red is never something to raise your nose at, even on a card as underwhelming as this. Protection from red basically means "Prevent all noncombat damage that would be dealt to this creature."

I used to beat the crap out of my brother with this guy and Nightwing Glidder back in the times of Masques. He had a BR disruption deck and I was playing rebels.
Of course, today is another day and creatures are tougher (specially white's), but this guy is still inmune to terminate and in the hybrid/tricolor era of Shadowmoor and Alara, it still has room to be recluited on the right time.
