In EDH it would work, if you got to drop it early.

You can ignore the discard your hand clause. This will end up being draw 7 for 5, that takes some time to mature.

This would see play if it were a 0 or 1 mana cost artifact. Or if you were allowed to look at the face-down cards. Or if you didn't have to crack it to retrieve the cards. Potential use in EDH though.
