Artwork and flavor text are really good, and to me the card also is: granting first strike to one of your creatures AT INSTANT SPEED can also mean saving one of your creatures in combat. OK, it's not one of the best cards in Magic, but it's a common 1/1 one drop, and there are far worse...

First strike is a pretty sweet ability, nice take on tundra wolves.
