why such a low rating?? seems pretty devastating in a creatureless deck when fending off aggro, both reducing damage to you and removing threats.

You could also play with a bunch of creatures with shroud or troll shroud.

Good in EDH sort-of. When a gargantuan general crashes in for game, and the general's owner is the bad guy, its likely that another player will help you out and target their stuff instead of yours. Possibly even the attacking creature, but it can't be something with shroud.

@nammertime: Trollshroud won't work. Hexproof prevents spells and abilities your opponents control from targeting your creatures, but technically you control the Pentacle's even if an opponent is choosing the target.
@dreg: If the target SOMEHOW becomes a planeswalker between ability activation and ability resolution...er, actually, I have no clue. o_O

@dreg & lord
No guys, think like cloudshift + gideon. But then that would cause gideon to be an illegal target I think.
But think like an artifact that can morph into a creature. Well if it loses its creature characteristics you will take damage.

Something I don't understand about the rulings..... they state:
"However, if it's not able to be dealt damage because it's neither a creature nor a planeswalker..."
A planeswalker isn't a creature so couldn't be targeted right? You also can't target a player for the damage to be redirected. So why the reference???
Either i'm missing something or i've just found a new use for this card :-)
