I rarely make a deck that doesn't welcome this card.

A) The Combo works, while it's true you only get to declare attackers once, your not declaring after the first time, the Maze of Ith untaps it and stops damage, it is still attacking period, which allows the Maze to repeat it's effect on the untapped Elder, thus looping infinant mana.

B) Maze of Ith was an Uncommon in the dark, NOT common. Trust me I've opened boxes of the Dark when I worked for the Comic/gaming store in the 90's.

The infinite mana combo works because the creature is not removed from combat. It is still an attacking creature despite being untapped and having all damage dealt to/by it prevented.

Who rated HairlessThoctar's comment down? That combo actually works:

Declare the Elder as an attacker.
Tap the maze to untap him.
Tap him to untap the maze and another land.
Tap the other land for mana.
Tap the maze to untap him.
Etc, etc.

As far as i remember, the mana doesn't stay in the manapool after the combat phase ends, but use an instant spell or a firebreather instead.

An auto-include in any EDH deck.

The art is tragically awful. It in no way illustrates the clear image of the card function combined with the name.
I like a lot of old art, but intestines doesn't cut it for something that would otherwise make a lot of sense.

I love playing this card with noobs, and they don't know how it works. Then after a few combat phases, they are screaming for land destruction.

Gatherer works better in the Companion app!
